Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. This was my first visit to Astoria Pastry Shop. Unfortunately, while eating my turtle pie brownie, I found more than one thin, sharp, metallic-looking strand in the dessert. I had already eaten most of it before noticing, which was very concerning. I called the shop, spoke with the manager, and they handled the situation professionally by giving me a full refund for my $21.06 order. I appreciate that they took my concern seriously and made it right financially. However, I still hope they investigate how this happened because it raises a food safety concern.

Founded in 1971 by the Teftsis family, if you're in Greektown, the must-visit destination after dinner is without a doubt Astoria Pastry Shop. The moment you push open the door, you will definitely be wowed by the most iconic feature of the shop is a long, seemingly endless row of sparkling clean glass display cases, with more than 100 dazzling desserts and cakes beautifully arranged, somehow it's a jewelry store rather than a pastry shop. Asked about their signature item, Baklava, was strongly recommended, which features countless layers of paper-thin phyllo dough stacked together, filled with crunchy crushed walnuts and cinnamon, and drenched in wild honey and syrup after baking. The first bite offers an incredible crunch, followed by an explosion of rich honey and nutty flavors. While will suggest preparing a black coffee to go with it, you'll understand it when you have it.

I visited this patisserie based on someone’s recommendation and asked for their best selling baklava. They pointed to a tray in the back, and I ordered just one piece to try. It turned out to be absolutely delicious, very fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Honestly, one of the best baklava I’ve had so far in North America. Definitely worth trying.

This pastry shop is absolutely beautiful! The amount of pastries available and the variety of tasty ice cream flavors available are amazing! We got a mini carrot cake, apple turnover, key lime cheesecake, and a delicious chocolate chunk cookie. I also was able to taste the banana pudding ice cream... it was so tasty! Thank you to the young woman who helped us with our order, she was delightful.

First of all, we've never been to this place before ever. We never even knew it existed. This place is probably the best setup and welcoming pastry shop I've ever been to! They have everything from pies to full size cakes to designer decorative cakes to every type of cheesecake/indian/Arabic pastry you can think of. I mean they have everything and the interior design of the place is immaculate! Absolutely loved it. The service was amazing and the ladies had smiles and they even made a handle for the bag that they gave us so that it was easily carried throughout our trip around downtown Detroit. My husband and I got caramel turtle bars I guess you can say on sticks and they were very decently sized He also got a pastry that I know many Arabic people to eat for desserts and it was nice and fluffy and warm and had a nice glaze on it. My older son got a black and white cookie which kind of tastes like gingerbread but it's soft with white icing on one side and black icing on the other side and then my youngest son got a gingerbread cookie and he loved it. I highly recommend this pastry shop to anyone in the downtown Detroit area It's right across from greektown casino and currently ther
